When it comes to skin, it is either the genes you got or it is the care you do for your skin. For me, I had a very clear and beautiful skin till my early teens and after that, it was all acne, blemishes, and spots which I have been trying to treat or care for. This search and trial to manage the acne and blemishes have been ongoing most of my life now. When I find a product that does makes the difference, I do feel happy and love to share my experience with you all through my blog.
I bought Sunday Riley Good Genes (CAD $135 excl taxes for 30ml) more than a few months back and if you see the bottle in the pictures below, you will find I still have a little bit left. It is not because this product does not get its turn to be used from my huge skin care cabinet but the reason is I do not want this to finish, yes I know it has a limited shelf life but still, I do not want it to get finished until I get a backup for this. This is one of my favorite product with acid, I have used many acids and liked a few and this is one of them.
Good Genes is described as “All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment is formulated with high potency, a purified grade lactic acid that immediately exfoliates dull, pore-clogging dead skin cells, revealing smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin. Fine lines appear visually plumped while the skin looks more radiant. With continued use, the appearance of stubborn hyperpigmentation and the visible signs of aging are reduced for a healthier-looking complexion. Perfect for all skin types and all ages, this treatment is enhanced with licorice for brightening, Good Genes clarifies, smooths, and retexturizes for instant radiance. ”
This is a great product for dullness, uneven skin texture, dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. It is suitable for normal, oily, combination and dry skin types. For your reference, I have combination skin type with occasional hormonal breakouts. It is formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, and Phthalates. The product is packaged in a glass bottle with a pump which works very well to dispense the right amount of product.
After using this product continuously in the starting and then occasionally when I have an acne flare up or I want that glow in the morning, I am a fan and I am not going to let this bottle finish until I buy a backup, seriously. This can be used both during the day (of course followed by a moisturizer and sunscreen) and night but I do prefer to use this as a treatment during the night. I get so good results with this product that I can not say enough about it. I do not use any moisturizer or night cream when I am using this during the night. I cleanse my face and apply this product on my face avoiding the eye area. In the morning, my face looks so glowy, clear and plumpy. It does give the feeling of a new skin. For the whole day, I do feel my face is a bit oily but I use a blotting paper once or twice and it is all good again.
I have noticed less acne or hormonal breakouts when I use it and when I have a breakout, it does get better soon. I have felt my acne scars fade so much faster with this, which is like a miracle for me as I get few new acne scars every month. I have not noticed such fast results with any other acid product that I have used. I did not notice any peeling or irritation with this product. I did do my due diligence to use a sunscreen the next day when I used this treatment during the night.
This product does have a bit different chemical kind of smell which fades away very soon but once you get to see the results from this, you will not even bother about the smell. This is an AHA exfoliant and this formulation of Lactic Acid works perfect on the surface of the skin and is very effective in resurfacing it. The effect from this product is almost immediate, I could see the glow even 5 to 10 minutes after application. It does absorb easily when applied and does not leaves any oily or dry feeling to the skin, means the skin does feel calm and smooth. I am totally a Fan and would highly recommend trying this unless you have a very sensitive skin.
It is available to be purchased at Sephora, Cult Beauty, and Space NK.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat is a gem product which has been raved and loved equally since last few decades. Inspired from the Original Touche Eclat, YSL created three new Touche Eclat Neutralizers (CAD $50 excluding taxes) which work for different concerns of skin and result. It is supposed to target and neutralize color imperfections of the skin. It is described to instantly cancel and neutralize color imperfections for a flawless skin tone. It is formulated in three color-correcting shades which address a number of skin concerns. The formula is light weight and allows for a very seamless and customizable correction. This can be applied under or over the foundation. It contains Vitamin E which helps protect against free radicals.
This Neutralizer is available in three shades:
Green to correct blemishes and conceal redness for an even skin tone.
Bisque to correct dark circles and dark spots, also provides illumination
Violet to correct yellow and dull skin for a healthy looking glow.
These Neutralizers come in easy-to-use, one click brush which allows targeting the specific area of concern perfectly.
I purchased two of these Neutralizers a few months back and have been loving them since then. As I have problematic skin due to occasional breakouts and then the spots from those breakouts, they leave mark and redness in that area, so Green seemed to be the perfect choice for my concern.
Also, for the days when the skin is not behaving well or in other words it is looking dull, I chose Violet to do the job for those days. Moreover, the healthy looking glow is all everyone wants, so Violet also seemed to be the right choice for my skin.
After using these for last few months, almost 4 months, I do like them both. The Green Neutralizer does make my redness and acne spots fade and my skin looks more even and natural. Due to the light weight of the product, it does not crease and stays on for 6-7 hours under and over my foundation. Applying it is also the part of luxury, they brush applicator is very soft and does help with the precise application. I have been using these on my acne spots as well as other discolorations or pigmentation, I do see they cover the area very naturally and not like the heavy concealers. The packaging is metallic and really pretty, the click pen is an add-on, the perfect amount of product comes out with a click.
The Violet Neutralizer is something I do not use regularly but during the days my skin looks dull and I do not want to do a lot of makeup and still want the glow. It provides the perfect amount of setup for a healthy natural glow.
The application and the packaging are same as the Green Neutralizer, very easy and luxurious. The consistency is nice and blends on very well without any signs of dryness. These both are nice products and they do deliver and work well for my needs.
Have you used any Neutralizer? Does it work well for you?
Eyeshadows are something which can change your whole look with some touching and tweaking. You can have a simple daytime look with the same set of eyeshadows and add on or tweak the existing one’s in different ways like applying wet, using more quantity can change your whole eye look from daytime to smokey or intense look. For a person like me, who is eye amateur, I am always on the hunt for some great formula’s that are easy for me to work with and that does work for my day time work and for any outing if there is. Browsing through some websites online, I got to know about these beautiful eye shadows which I am going to talk about further. I bought these Sisley Phyto-Ombre Glow Luminous Eye Shadow (CAD $70 for single eyeshadow excluding taxes) in shades, Pearl and Amber, a few months back.
As described on the Official Sisley website, Phyto-Ombre Glow is a next-generation mono eye shadow with an unprecedented texture, for an ultra-radiant result and unrivaled sensory effect. Designed to be used alone or combined with other eye shadows, it allows creating tailor-made makeup results. Its ultra-soft formula enriched with plant-based extracts (Green Tea, White Lily, Camelia) is respectful to the delicate epidermis of eyelids. Lighter and comfortable to wear, this shadow adheres better to the eye and is lighter than a typical powder for an easy and long-lasting makeup. It’s high-tech texture delivers an ultra-pure color, with no risk of overdoing it and without powdery effect. Tested under ophthalmologic and dermatological control. Appropriate for those with sensitive eyes and those who wear contact lenses. The results are a flawless long-wearing makeup, without the risk of over-application. The sheer color and light to make your gaze sparkle.
The main active ingredients of these eye shadows are Camelia Oil which I do love for my skin and hair. It nourishes and softens the skin. White lily in the formula also nourishes the skin and Green tea hydrates the skin.
And the description is what made me buy these, I love the look of these and the results which are described as sheer color and light which will make your eyes sparkle. The packaging of these eye shadows is really pretty in classic black Sisley single eye shadow packing. The palette of single eye shadow contains a small brush which is nice and does work nicely. I have used the eyeshadow both with my eye brush and with my fingers.
The texture is very silky, it so hard to describe but so luxurious to apply. This is something I have not experienced before, the formula is so soft, silky and buttery, cream to powder which is very easy to apply and blend. It is very sheer in a single application and can be build up easily. It does give a sparkle to the eyes, the natural one. I have used this eyeshadow on the lids, on my brow bone as a highlighter and on the inner corner of my eyes to add the hint of light.
I carefully chose these two shades Pearl and Amber so that they look good on my medium tan skin tone. They do suit me as an eyeshadow and as a highlighter too. The other main thing about these eye shadows is the staying power which is really good, over 10-12 hours, it may have lasted long but that is the time I have worn them generally and they looked fresh until the end of the day for me.
They didn’t crease on my eye lids which are a plus point for me. The quality of the shine they give on the skin is really pretty, does not look any glittery or sparkly, just a nice perfect shine, maybe you can get an idea from the swatches. The pearlescent quality of these eye shadows did light up my eyes and I got the perfect shine I always crave for. I am a total fan, one of my favorites.
