You might have heard of ‘Food for the face’ here and there but when it comes to the real reasoning on why it is called so, it might not fit well into the whole concept. But what I am referring to here is the brand which, in my opinion, has a solid backup of why it is called ‘Superfood for the skin’. Superfoods are the foods which contain antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins that provide a host of benefits for the skin as well as the body and overall health like Kale and Spinach.
Youth To The People or ‘Superfood for the skin’ is a brand with clean, greens-based products that are suitable for most of the skin types for their formulas and effectiveness. The products are packed with a concoction of skin and body healthy nutrients, antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients from cold-pressed plant extracts. The other thing I really like about the brand is that they work on small batches for maximum freshness. I have been testing three products from the brand including the new Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil.
Youth To The People Superfood Cleanser is a gentle daily cleanser for the face which is formulated with cold-pressed antioxidants – kale, spinach, and green tea – to cleanse, calm, and purify the skin. It works nicely to prevent buildup in pores and balance pH without drying or stripping. This is a really nice first cleanse for the mornings and second cleanse for the evenings for me. This is indeed the green juice cleanse for your face in terms of the brand’s vocabulary and vision for the superfoods. The texture has a gel texture and has a fresh herbal scent to it.
Youth To The People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream is a moisturizing cream suitable for dry skin but I am glad to try it during the fall when my skin is behaving and as we enter into winter, my skin needs more moisture. The Adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms in this cream calm the skin when faced with daily stressors like UV rays and environmental pollutants. The Pentapeptide calms the stress reaction in the sensitive and irritated skin. The Proprietary Adaptogen Blend contains Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Reishi, and Holy Basil, all these ingredients made me more excited to try this because, my background being from India, all these herbs have been a part of my day to day vocabulary as well as life. With healing properties, treatment for stress, anxiety, exhaustion, Ashwagandha is something I do take orally too and so glad to apply it on my face with this cream. It has a really nice smooth texture which melts into the skin and there is no scent in the cream. It leaves a nice glow on the skin and no residue or oiliness.
Youth To The People Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil is a face oil that harnesses the nutrients of rare super berries. This oil has Maqui, the most antioxidant dense fruit in the world, which is combined with açaí and goji, creating a potent antioxidant elixir. Also included are the intensely hydrating prickly pear and squalane oil to lock in moisture with the help of omega fatty acids and high levels of vitamin C. It is very lightweight and easy to apply, sinks in nicely without giving any residue or feeling of oiliness.
There is a fruity scent to the oil which is very uplifting. It works great on its own after serum and before moisturizer during the day and even a drop of this oil in the foundation makes a nice difference in how fresh and dewy the skin looks.
Overall, a real superfood treats for the skin. I am really liking the products and they will be staying in the rotation in my skincare routine. Youth To The People products are available at Sephora Canada, Sephora, Free People Canada, and Nordstrom.
Roos & Roos is a new brand to me and since I read about the story behind the brand, it made me more excited to try this fragrance, Roos & Roos Nymphessence, from the house. The brand was founded by two women, a duo of mother and daughter, Chantal and Alexandra Roos. Just to mention here that Chantal Roos was involved with the development of some amazing fragrances like Yves Saint Laurent’s Kouros, Paris, Opium; Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Mâle; and Issey Miyake’s L’Eau d’Issey. As Chantal Roos is more into Olfaction, Alexandra excels in music, and the team of Mother and Daughter keep the synergy between the two mediums of olfaction and music merge into to become the soul of this brand.
’Another day along the riverside you lay,
stunning in the weeds, and when you awaken, gestures candidly
imbued with the grace of nymphs, the woods nearby
take you below to an enchanted world where mingle flowers and fruits,
pears and mandarins, maybe even magnolia…’
Nymphessence was launched in 2016. The nose behind the fragrance is Fabrice Pellegrin and Elise Benat. Fabrice Pellegrin is the nose behind many of the Diptyque and Jo Maloneès amazing scents. Nymphessence is a woody floral fragrance, illuminated by a spicy green freshness, with touches of pink pepper irresistibly tinged with an accord of pear and mandarin. Filled with a smooth floral heart blending magnolia, freesia and orange blossom, the trail vibrates with passion under the intensity of blonde amber woods lying on a bed of white musks. Packaged in a keepsake bottle illustrated by French artist Christophe Brunnquell.
At the edge of the forest, along with the riverside, the nymph, symbol of beauty, lives in an enchanted world of flowers and fruits.
Top: gourmand freshness with pear and mandarine
Heart: magnolia, freesia, orange flower
Base: blonde amber woods and white musks
Nymphessence is a nice everyday fragrance for me, it is not overpowering on my skin. I like woody floral musk in general but specifically in the colder months. The fragrance is light, crisp, and has a nice freshness to it along which is very subtle but can be totally felt. Despite the musk as a base, it is very much wearable during the day and even at work. It is available at Roos & Roos Online, so-avant-garde.com
Smashbox is a beauty brand born out of a real photo studio—the legendary Smashbox Studios in L.A. which was founded by Dean and Davis Factor, great-grandsons of Hollywood Makeup Legend Max Factor. Smashbox Cosmetics launched in 1996 saying ‘If the products work in rough studio light, they will work in the real world’ and since then, it has some of the most amazing products and not to forget their signature product, Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, which is still the best-seller from the brand since it launched. I am sharing a few products which I have been testing and were on rotation since last few days.
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is a clear face primer gel smoothes skin and blurs flaws. It was developed to help makeup look better and last longer on set. I have combination skin and have skin imperfections like pigmentation and spots from my breakouts.
I have used this primer few times and it works pretty well with my skin, blurs the pores and imperfections, and I did notice the makeup stayed a bit longer than the days I am not using any primer. The foundation applied nicely over the primer.
Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Petal-Metal is a curated mix of colors, formulas, and finishes so you can nail the latest trends and create your own looks. Each portable palette includes six eyeshadows and two double-size base shades in a range of finishes. The shades give intense pigment payoff and blends is easy.
I love rose gold shades and this wearable rainbow of petal-soft rose gold glides on in one swipe, with amazing pigment in one swipe. The formula is very smooth and buttery. Each shade beautifully blooms to create effortless matte day looks and sultry metallic evening looks. I am really liking the formula, the shades are perfect to create multiple looks this season.
Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick is a liquid matte lipstick available in a range of new metallics, bolds, and nudes. It is specifically formulated to be comfortable and not dry out your lips.
The formula is lightweight and creamy, glides on easily on the lips and then it is all matte yet comfortable on the lips. It does not dry out the lips, and as mentioned it is very lightweight like I did forget a few times if I have something on my lips.
The staying power is really good considering it is comfortable and not drying. The liquid lipstick is available in a wide range of lip colors, from vibrant, bright shades to muted, neutrals.
