Being a lover of luxury candles and scents, I always have the scented candles on rotation for a specific season. I do have a few on my favorite candles from Cire Trudon, which I reviewed here, they are very much loved and on rotation. I am so glad to share one of the three new candles from the Christmas 2018 collection. Cire Trudon brings ancient Egypt back to life for Christmas with the trio of three timeless scented candles: outstanding pyramids (Cire Trudon Gizeh), an Egyptian God (Amon), and an island on the Nile River (Philae).
The three exclusive scents this festive season have traditional incense, notes of papyrus and the comforting presence of a candied-firewood hearten the soul. The collection celebrates ancient Egypt’s evocative power: the visionary architecture of the Gizeh Pyramids; the strength of Amon, a revered, mysterious God; and the timeless geography of Philae, a protected island on the Nile River. Regarding the packaging, the handcrafted boxes have hieroglyphs and acronyms hint at the enigmatic civilization: an eye, a branch of papyrus, a sculptural eagle or a helping hand mimic ancient tales. Standing out, the name of each scented candle is written in a distinct manner that suggests a treasure, geography, or secret divinity. There is gold on the inside, the three candles come in off-white, watery green, and mosaic pink colored glasses. The trio is called ‘Odeurs d’Egypte’ and reveals the sacred nature of Egypt’s ancient rituals and myths.
Out of the trio, I have Amon which I am really enjoying for the festive season. It has mosaic-pink packaging -hand-blown Italian glass, adorned with the signature Cire Trudon gold label. The Amon is an homage to the mysterious ancient Egyptian ‘hidden god’ that, as the myth has it, no one could set eyes on. Encapsulating this mysterious story, this candle is scented with notes of traditional incense, subtly sweet patchouli and vanilla-like tonka bean, opening with head notes of rose and aldehydes and carried on an irresistibly woody base of sandalwood and cedar. Golden inside with a mosaic-pink exterior, the beautiful jar makes a great addition to any roo
The notes of the scent are:
Head: Rose, Aldehyde
Heart: Patchouli, Tonka Bean
Base: Cedar, Sandalwood
The candle has a distinct woody scent that evokes age-old history. The burn time of the candle is 65 to 70 hours.
It is a stunning addition to any bedside table, desk or mantelpiece. If you are a scented candle lover or want to add a touch of luxury on your bedside, vanity, or living room, I highly recommend you to check out this beautiful candle. Cire Trudon Scented Candles are available at Gravity Pope, Putti Fine Furnishing, Pink Tartan, Avenue Road, and KANDL Artistique.
You might have heard of ‘Food for the face’ here and there but when it comes to the real reasoning on why it is called so, it might not fit well into the whole concept. But what I am referring to here is the brand which, in my opinion, has a solid backup of why it is called ‘Superfood for the skin’. Superfoods are the foods which contain antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins that provide a host of benefits for the skin as well as the body and overall health like Kale and Spinach.
Youth To The People or ‘Superfood for the skin’ is a brand with clean, greens-based products that are suitable for most of the skin types for their formulas and effectiveness. The products are packed with a concoction of skin and body healthy nutrients, antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients from cold-pressed plant extracts. The other thing I really like about the brand is that they work on small batches for maximum freshness. I have been testing three products from the brand including the new Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil.
Youth To The People Superfood Cleanser is a gentle daily cleanser for the face which is formulated with cold-pressed antioxidants – kale, spinach, and green tea – to cleanse, calm, and purify the skin. It works nicely to prevent buildup in pores and balance pH without drying or stripping. This is a really nice first cleanse for the mornings and second cleanse for the evenings for me. This is indeed the green juice cleanse for your face in terms of the brand’s vocabulary and vision for the superfoods. The texture has a gel texture and has a fresh herbal scent to it.
Youth To The People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream is a moisturizing cream suitable for dry skin but I am glad to try it during the fall when my skin is behaving and as we enter into winter, my skin needs more moisture. The Adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms in this cream calm the skin when faced with daily stressors like UV rays and environmental pollutants. The Pentapeptide calms the stress reaction in the sensitive and irritated skin. The Proprietary Adaptogen Blend contains Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Reishi, and Holy Basil, all these ingredients made me more excited to try this because, my background being from India, all these herbs have been a part of my day to day vocabulary as well as life. With healing properties, treatment for stress, anxiety, exhaustion, Ashwagandha is something I do take orally too and so glad to apply it on my face with this cream. It has a really nice smooth texture which melts into the skin and there is no scent in the cream. It leaves a nice glow on the skin and no residue or oiliness.
Youth To The People Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil is a face oil that harnesses the nutrients of rare super berries. This oil has Maqui, the most antioxidant dense fruit in the world, which is combined with açaí and goji, creating a potent antioxidant elixir. Also included are the intensely hydrating prickly pear and squalane oil to lock in moisture with the help of omega fatty acids and high levels of vitamin C. It is very lightweight and easy to apply, sinks in nicely without giving any residue or feeling of oiliness.
There is a fruity scent to the oil which is very uplifting. It works great on its own after serum and before moisturizer during the day and even a drop of this oil in the foundation makes a nice difference in how fresh and dewy the skin looks.
Overall, a real superfood treats for the skin. I am really liking the products and they will be staying in the rotation in my skincare routine. Youth To The People products are available at Sephora Canada, Sephora, Free People Canada, and Nordstrom.
Roos & Roos is a new brand to me and since I read about the story behind the brand, it made me more excited to try this fragrance, Roos & Roos Nymphessence, from the house. The brand was founded by two women, a duo of mother and daughter, Chantal and Alexandra Roos. Just to mention here that Chantal Roos was involved with the development of some amazing fragrances like Yves Saint Laurent’s Kouros, Paris, Opium; Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Mâle; and Issey Miyake’s L’Eau d’Issey. As Chantal Roos is more into Olfaction, Alexandra excels in music, and the team of Mother and Daughter keep the synergy between the two mediums of olfaction and music merge into to become the soul of this brand.
’Another day along the riverside you lay,
stunning in the weeds, and when you awaken, gestures candidly
imbued with the grace of nymphs, the woods nearby
take you below to an enchanted world where mingle flowers and fruits,
pears and mandarins, maybe even magnolia…’
Nymphessence was launched in 2016. The nose behind the fragrance is Fabrice Pellegrin and Elise Benat. Fabrice Pellegrin is the nose behind many of the Diptyque and Jo Maloneès amazing scents. Nymphessence is a woody floral fragrance, illuminated by a spicy green freshness, with touches of pink pepper irresistibly tinged with an accord of pear and mandarin. Filled with a smooth floral heart blending magnolia, freesia and orange blossom, the trail vibrates with passion under the intensity of blonde amber woods lying on a bed of white musks. Packaged in a keepsake bottle illustrated by French artist Christophe Brunnquell.
At the edge of the forest, along with the riverside, the nymph, symbol of beauty, lives in an enchanted world of flowers and fruits.
Top: gourmand freshness with pear and mandarine
Heart: magnolia, freesia, orange flower
Base: blonde amber woods and white musks
Nymphessence is a nice everyday fragrance for me, it is not overpowering on my skin. I like woody floral musk in general but specifically in the colder months. The fragrance is light, crisp, and has a nice freshness to it along which is very subtle but can be totally felt. Despite the musk as a base, it is very much wearable during the day and even at work. It is available at Roos & Roos Online, so-avant-garde.com
