Byredo Black Saffron has been on my wishlist to try for quite a long time, the main reason was the attachment of this fragrance to my roots in India. Saffron has always had an important place in India for holy rituals, food, and even everyday life for its medicinal properties. I have three products from the collection I am absolutely in love – Byredo Black Saffron Hair Perfume, Black Saffron Body Lotion, and Black Saffron Hand Cream.

“Saffron has always been a part of my Indian upbringing both in smell, taste, and color. It is holy to all Hindus, is the color of Buddhist robes and has become a symbol for India. BYREDO’s ‘Black Saffron’ is a fragrance inspired by this very idea of sublime unity. I have grown to understand more about my heritage and this fragrance is very much about that process.” – Ben Gorham, Founder and Creative Director of Byredo. With its beautiful, intense golden-orange color and hay-like scent, Saffron has been used as a seasoning, dye, medicine, and fragrance. It was brought to Kashmir by the Persians in the 11th/12th century AD and its use and cultivation spread quickly throughout the country.

The notes of the fragrance are:

Top: Juniper Berries, Pomelo, Saffron
Heart: Accord Cuir, Black Violet, Cristal Rose
Base: Blonde Woods, Raspberry, Vetiver

Byredo Black Saffron Hair Perfume is a light formula and gives an invisible veil designed to leave the hair nourished and luminous while divinely scented. The scent is very uplifting and long-lasting. It subtly diffuses throughout the day, amplified by the natural movement of the hair. When you are busy with your daily routine, the scent diffuses gently to remind of it being there which is very refreshing. It does not makes the hair dry or leaves a residue. Hair looks and feels fresh, even on the second day after hair wash.

Byredo’s Black Saffron Hand Cream is a moisturizing hand cream which does not feel sticky or greasy. It absorbs nicely into the skin and keeps the hands moisturized. My hands look soft and youthful. It is perfect for layering with the brand’s Black Saffron Eau de parfum.

Ben Gorham, the founder of Byredo, has been recognized for his personal style and connection to fashion and art in several international magazines such as French Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, V Magazine and Fantastic Man to name a few. Ben began to be intrigued by scent and memory after traveling to his mother’s hometown in India, where he was stirred by the aromas of spices and incense.

Byredo Eleventh Hour Eau de Parfum

Founded in 2006, Byredo’s scented candles and perfumes have been developed with an understated approach, using simple composition of the highest quality raw materials which has a cult following of its own now. This new fragrance launched this year, 2018 has been my go-to since last few weeks, it is so unique and beautiful that I am so obsessed with it. The nose behind Eleventh Hour is Jerome Epinette.

Byredo Eleventh Hour Eau de Parfum

Byredo Eleventh Hour is an exploration around the smell of things ending, a journey to the end of the Time, the last perfume on Earth. This is very unconventional for a fragrance to have this inspiration but if you see on the deeper level, the inspiration is rooted in issues affecting our environment.

Byredo Eleventh Hour Eau de Parfum

‘I want to travel until I did not have to search anymore. Today I know that life is a journey that brings you to the end of the world, a return to the harmony we have lost.’, says the great Swiss explorer Ella Maillart, who in 1951 was one of the rare Westerners to reach Nepal rise, the highest places will be the last refuges and zones that were once considered hostile to humans will become shelters.

Notes of the fragrance are:

Top: Ban Timmur, Bergamot

Middle: Carrot Seeds, Rum, Wild Fig

Base: Cashmere Woods, Tonka Bean

Byredo Eleventh Hour Eau de Parfum

‘The top notes, led by the peppery and citrus accents of Ban Timmur, take us to the Nepali highlands, where this plant grows. Wild fig, the first forbidden fruit, is the heart note of Eleventh Hour. A symbol of desire, its sweet and captivating scent encapsulates the smell of danger. From the warmth of tonka beans combined with Cashmere Woods notes emanate an energetic radiation, similar to that released by our solar plexus when it opens wide. As if a bond was recreated between man and cosmos.

Byredo Eleventh Hour Eau de Parfum

Overall, a very unique creation. From the pepper and cloves in the opening, and then to the amalgamation of spices and wood is marvelous. It makes it more balanced and unisex. The longevity of the scent on my skin is over 8 hours and I can still smell it when I press my nose close to the wrist. It is a lovely scent and perfect for fall and winter, a faint creaminess fruitiness underneath the spices and wood which does soothe the nerves and is very comforting like the feeling of warmth anyone needs in this season and throughout the season. I can totally see myself wearing it a lot this season.

Byredo Eleventh Hour is available at Byredo.com, Holt Renfrew, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, and Net-A-Porter
