You must be thinking dehydrated body and dehydrated skin make sense but what is dehydrated hair and if there is something like ‘dehydrated hair’, and if you have dehydrated hair. I know I had the same concerns in my mind when I heard about this term. We come across different terms for hair like dry, oily, dull in our daily routine but I was curious to know what is dehydrated hair, Okay here I start. Christophe Robin hydrating range, which I am going to talk about in this post, is based on the concerns and needs of his clients, I do consider myself his client too (not a direct one yet but I still am and love all the products I have use from his brand, like they were created based on my hairs needs).

Christophe Robin Hydrating

If your hair is dull and losing its elasticity and bounce, If your hair is prone to static electricity, If your hair inflates at the slightest sign of humidity, These are all the signs of Dehydrated Hair. I do get “Yes” for all the three ‘If’s‘ I mentioned above and I had never had an idea that my hair could be dehydrated, I would have thought about them as a bad hair day or something I missed while styling them. But the real reason might be the wind, cold, weather, the sun, friction from rubbing against helmet or scarves. So we come to the conclusion that moisturizing hair is as important as moisturizing skin every day.

Christophe Robin Hydrating

Christophe Robin products are developed by combining natural ingredients to develop effective formulas and for this new Hydrating range, the main ingredient is Aloe Vera. This range is suitable for men and women. I remember my mom used to have an Aloe Vera plant grown in her garden and she would get a little pulp from it every day and apply it on her face and then to mine, it used to soothe the skin, hydrate and brighten it. Whenever I go to visit her, She still loves to do that and I can see her skin is so beautiful. And yes she eats it too sometimes which is far better than buying Aloe Vera juice from the stores. Okay, now putting my stories aside, let me talk about these products which have Aloe Vera and are for hair. I was sent these products as part of press package for testing and review purposes. The packaging of the products is in white sturdy bottles and dispenser and pump for both work very well.

Aloe Vera plant has very thick leathery leaves which keep the vital resources inside the leave intact. Aloe Vera gel is a combination of water and over 75 active molecules, 20 minerals, 18 amino acids, 12 vitamins, and nutrients. Yes, I do understand all these as My mom is a Chemistry Professor and I was a good student, so this was an obvious choice for my mom and I trust her choice of products till now. That means, these products were destined to be loved by me, but wait, let me start with them again, I won’t divert the topic now.

Christophe Robin Hydrating Shampoo with Aloe Vera (CAD $43/250ml) is suitable for all types of hair and is gentle enough for frequent use. It is enriched with Aloe Vera, a rich blend of water, vitamins, and nutrients which provide soothing and hydration. I take a small amount of the shampoo and distribute it through wet hair, lather and then rinse thoroughly. The scent is so invigorating and fresh. Then I follow with the Hydrating Leave-in Mist with Aloe Vera. I spray it few times on the damp hair and either air dry or blow dry the hair.

Christophe Robin Hydrating leave-in mist with Aloe Vera (CAD $48/150ml) is a leave-in mist suitable for all hair types. It provides hydration as well as helps detangling of the hair. It can be use don hair lengths as well as on the scalp. It is formulated with pure aloe vera gel and an active plant ingredient which soothes and restores the scalp’s comfort. It is very light in texture with the same invigorating and freshening scent as the hydrating shampoo.  It can be used as a mid day pick me up for a quick spritz and refresh the hair or if hair is feeling dry and dull. I do feel my hair pleasantly soft and shiny while my scalp is calm and healthier.

Both these products are must-try if you have any one of the three ‘If’s‘ I highlighted in bold letters in the first half of this post. Christophe Robin Hydrating Shampoo with Aloe Vera and Christophe Robin Hydrating leave-in mist with Aloe Vera are available at Sephora Canada.

What is your favorite hair care product for hair and for scalp?

I have a sensitive scalp and it behaves very differently in different seasons for which I have tried and tested from few of the best luxury brands out there in the last few years. I have few favorites which performed well as compared to the hype around them and few of them which didn’t work well for me. I was a fan of this brand since I bought and used the Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Oil reviewed here. I bought Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt last year and I am a fan of this one too. I bought the small packaging (CAD $24 excl taxes for 2.7oz/75ml) to give it a try and then this full-size big packaging (CAD $67 excl taxes for 8.33oz) was the result of my love with the product.

Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub

Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt is described as a Purifying, Hydrating and soothing shampoo for sensitive scalps and oily roots. Sephora describes this as a purifying, moisturizing, and soothing scrub is the ideal detox treatment to remove product buildup and rebalance sensitive or oily scalps. It can also be used as a post-coloring treatment to relieve itchiness and remove chemical residues left on the scalp. Its original formula contains sea salt—a natural exfoliant—which eliminates impurities and supports natural blood circulation. The paste is enriched with a 100 percent plant-derived agent, which offers deep and long-lasting hydration to the scalp even after rinsing, leaving it soothed, rebalanced, and healthy. It is free of Paraben, Silicone, and colorants.

It is advised to be used once or twice a week and I have used this every week for two months. At first, this product seems very different and difficult to use but once you get started, it seems easy and worth when you see the results. The first things I liked about this product is the idea of scrub for the scalp, I do have a lot of buildup from the styling products or when I have dandruff, it is just a mess (i know it is not the right way to describe my own hair but that is true).

I wet my hair, take a small amount, almost a teaspoon of this into the palm of my hand and massage it on my scalp gently. Then I add a very small amount of water and continue to massage gently, it lathers very nicely. Keep in mind the lather does feel different on the hands than the lather from other shampoos and soaps. Then I rinse thoroughly, yes it does take quite an effort to have this all out of hair. I apply a conditioning treatment to the length and ends of my hair.  I prefer to use Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Oil as they both work very well together. If not, any other conditioner works well with this.  After rinsing the conditioner thoroughly, yes I am done. Just want to mention here that the smell of this product is very fresh and lemony which I like. If used alone without any conditioner afterward, you will feel the hair a bit dry as it is a purifying shampoo.

I have really liked the concept of a scalp and hair scrub and the after-results. My itchy, irritated and sensitive scalp feels calm, my dandruff stays at bay with regular use, and my hair does feel soft and shiny. This has been my second repurchase of this product and I hope to keep sticking to this one for my problem scalp. Also, I notice it does give a nice volume to hair which is a big yes for me.

If you are interested in reading my review about Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Oil, I have linked it in the first paragraph of this post. They do work well together and even separately. It is available for purchase at various international online merchandisers like Net-a-Porter and also at Sephora.

Have you tried a scrub for scalp? What do you use when your scalp is itchy, irritated or have product buildup?

Christophe Robin is an A-list colorist for over 20 years, created his hair care line in 1999 selecting powerful natural ingredients for recognized long term results. After hearing and reading impressive reviews of this hair care line, I bought the regenerating mask with rare prickly pear oil to calm my easily irritated scalp and dry frizzy wavy hair. It contains pure prickly pear seed oil which is a natural treasure with antioxidant and repairing properties. There are many products in the market which contain the prickly pear seed oil, which seems like the most hyped hair oil nowadays and after using this mask regularly for the last 7 months, i love it.

Who is this hair mask for?

Anyone with normal, weak or damaged hair, basically all hair types. Suitable for colored hair. It is formulated without Parabens, Sulfates and Phthalates.

What it does and how it worked for me?

As per Sephora description, “This regenerative mask treatment has creamy formula that penetrates into the hair for a profound and long-lasting effect, from roots to tips. It is enriched with pure prickly pear seed oil—a precious natural remedy with antioxidant and regenerative virtues. Its action is reinforced with a 100 percent natural repairing agent that restructures and strengthens hair from the inside, smoothing and enhancing its shine. These active ingredients are combined with inula flower extract to reinvigorate and protect the pigments of natural or dyed hair. The scalp is stimulated, roots are regenerated, and hair is protected from breakage and split ends for a smooth, soft, radiant finish.

I totally agree with each point in the description above. Along with repairing and protecting the lengths of hair, it also stimulates the scalp and protects hair from split ends and further breakages. I have felt a very nice change in my hair and scalp. My scalp has been quite calm since i started using this mask. My dry frizzy hair have been in control. My scalp and hair are moisturized without being oily.

How i use it?

I use it once every week and sometimes twice when my hair are drier than usual. I take a small amount in my fingers and start massaging it into my cleansed scalp. Then, I work towards the hair ends. Little is more in this case. I take the size of hazelnut of this mask twice, one for my scalp and other for hair lengths. This does produce a little leather when water is added while massaging. The massage feels relaxing when you know you are putting something good on your scalp and hair. I do a quick bun with a hair clip and continue with my bath. I keep this mask on hair for 5 to 15 minutes.

The important thing i want to mention here is to rinse the hair thoroughly, i have had an experience when i was in hurry and later felt like the product was still in my hair. As this is a treatment mask, and there is a time limit to keep this in hair, so always rinse it out thoroughly. I skip conditioner when i am using this mask. I like the smell of this mask too, not very strong but nice. I have used this mask before air drying, blow drying and heat styling, and my hair looks healthy and shiny in all ways. Even when i am travelling, I refill and take my travel jar with me.

Final Words

I feel my scalp and hair are stronger and healthier since i started using this mask. Hair have been smoother and shiny. This is one of those cult things that will always be my go-to when my scalp and hair needs help.
