I still can not get over the beautiful launches last year, details here and the year has just flown by so quickly – sharing the Cire Trudon Christmas 2019 Collection from the house in this article. Founded in 17th Century Paris, Cire Trudon has a rich history and was once candlemaker to the courts of Marie Antoinette and Louis XIV.

Cire Trudon celebrates Christmas with a collection of 6 festive scented candles: their magnetic refections and luminous surfaces are unique. The candles are handcrafted with care, each glass is first lacquered on the inside before being decorated with silver leaves. Placed one by one, the later leaves fine cracks through which the light shines mysteriously. The flickering gives the candle a unique presence.

Further lacquered, the scented candles stand out with a colourful sheen: Abd el Kader’s silvery-white, Ernesto’s enigmatic black, Fir’s deep metallic blue, Nazareth’s magnetic red, Gabriel’s iridescent khaki and Hupo’s golden amber. In addition to Cire Trudon’s Nativity scents – evoking deserts, benzoin, myrrh and the trilogy of Magi kings – Fir et Hupo bring wintery notes of fir and amber to the collection.

Cire Trudon’s candle has been carefully hand-poured in Normandy and presented within a golden glass vessel bearing the brand’s emblem. Instilled with notes of Amber, Cedarwood and Iris, ‘Hupo’ is a relaxing fragrance that “fills your home with a sense of calm.” Notes of Citrus and Cinnamon make it particularly festive, so be sure to light it when you have visitors.

‘A mysterious and mesmerizing material, ambergris has been treasured since Antiquity. The Hupo scented candle hints at ambergris’ rare origin: sought and desired, ambergris fascinated sovereigns around the globe; it was exchanged at a high price between China and the Middle East. Used in perfumes as well as medicine, its enigmatic, sensual scent matches the skin perfectly. Presented in a golden glass, the Hupo scented candle welcomes the olfactory strength of ambergris, incense and cashmere wood to celebrate Christmas in a unique manner.’

Heart Notes: Iris, Patchouli, Incense
Base Notes: Amber, Leather, Labdanum, Vanilla

Cire Trudon Candles are luxurious candles known for their exquisite attention to detail, design, and quality. The history of Cire Trudon Candles begins back in 1643. It was during this year that Claude Trudon became the owner of a boutique on the rue Saint-Honore where he developed his activity as a grocer and candler. His candles were purchased to light parishes and homes. Utmost care was taken to make the candles. Its motto ‘Deo regique laborant’ meant ‘ They work for God and King’, ‘they’ being the bees. The wax is carefully harvested from the hive before being filtered, washed, and exposed to sunlight in order to obtain the purest white possible. The exquisite and perfectly white candles from the house were lighted even in the court of Louis the 15th and in the kingdom’s largest parishes. It was not just the immaculate color but the burning time of the candles was really long and they did not splutter. Even in 1789, the house supplied Versailles up to the last days of the Ancient Regime and survived through the French Revolution.

Then in 1811, when Napoleon the 1st was crowned, the house supplied the imperial court with the candles. The emperor gave his son only one present the day he was born, a Trudon pillar candle adorned with three gold coins showing Napolean’s profile, the Imperial Pillar Candle. In 2007, the company took the name ‘Cire Trudon’ and became a specialist in manufacturing perfumed candles. Today, it enlists well-known ‘noses’ to create perfumes for the stories it wishes to tell. Each candle is still dripped and made by hand, perpetuating a luxury manufacturing which helps perpetuates the skills of its founder, Claude Trudon.

Few of the striking features I would like to bring to your attention are below:

The wax formulas of the Trudon candles are the fruit of specific developments which are the source of its exceptional olfactory and burning qualities. When correctly taken care of, no smoke leaves a Trudon candle and no wax is left on the sides of the glass.

Each glass is unique and hand-crafted in Tuscany. Their shape is inspired by champagne buckets.

The wicks are made of cotton. One can find many types of wicks, characterized by their weaving and their diameter. The wicks are chosen depending on the shape and size of the glasses, as well as the burning characteristics of each candle.

Elaborated in partnership with renowned perfumers, all Trudon fragrances are developed with utmost care and patience. From the selection of raw materials, the trials in the in-house laboratory, until the final application in wax, many steps pave the way to the birth of a Trudon candle fragrance.

The beehive symbol pays tribute to the bees that contributed to the quality of the Maison Trudon candles throughout the centuries.

The Cire Trudon emblem is inspired by a bas relief found at the old Royal Wax Manufacture which used to belong to the Trudon family. Situated in Antony, near Paris, it now belongs to the Church.

From the luxurious packaging to the rich, luscious scents combined with a long burning time, it is all one can expect from the prestigious house. In this feature, I am sharing three beautiful candles from the house which are an epitome of perfection in themselves.

Cire Trudon Madurai

Cire Trudon Madurai candle is part of Les Belles Matieres collection. The Duke of Tuscany first brought jasmine in India in 1690, a flower originally from Arabia. Whether fresh or dried, they still play a quintessential role in India’s myths, legends and daily rituals. At times, jasminum sambac perfumes loose-leaf tea; at others, it is braided into floral necklaces. Revered spiritually, the odorant flower turns into an offering in Hindu temples. The keynotes of the fragrance are:

Head note is Ylang-Ylang

Heart notes are Sambac Jasmine absolute

Base note is Benzoin Resin

In the Southern part of the country, Maduraï offers among the most beautiful temples of India. Well known for the culture of jasmine, it is also a significant Tamil cultural centre, built on the banks of the river Vaigai. The city draws its history from a legend saying that god Shiva blessed the ground with the divine nectar escaping its hair.

The secret powers of a bare flower for the love of Louis XIV, Melle de La Vallière surrounded herself with a bastion of sweet and shattering intensity of tuberoses. Damp fragrance of an intoxicating love : from the King’s bedroom to her convent, Louise de la Vallière personifies this deeply sensual flower, whose plump and overwhelming scents represent true, dazzling and almost spiritual love. The keynotes of the fragrance are:

Head notes are Bergamot, Galbanum, Orange Blossom

Middle notes are Jasmine, Tuberose, Ylang-Ylang

Base notes are Benzoin Resin, Cistus, Musk

Françoise Louise de la Vallière was secretly in love with King Louis XIV, who made her one of his favourites. She bore him four children in the utmost secrecy. She crowded her bed with tuberoses to quell the queen’s suspicions “…by inhaling these scents that were so dangerous to her condition, she thought she was risking her life, but she hoped to save her honour”… (excerpted from “La Duchesse de Lavallière” by Stéphanie Félicité de Genlis). Abandoned for Athénaïs de Montespan who took her place in the king’s heart, she retired to Carmel and became “Sister Louise of Mercy”

The scents from Cire Trudon are available in form of scented cameo wax. The scented cameo wax goes on the ceramic dish of La Promeneuse. La Promeneuse is a decorative object designed to diffuse the Cire Trudon fragrances. After placing a cameo in the ceramic dish, light a night-light beneath it. The heated cameo will melt and spread its fragrance rapidly into the air.
La Promeneuse allows to easily change fragrances. Once the night-light is lit, the heated cameo will melt and spread its fragrance rapidly into the air. A scented wax cameo will diffuse 8 hours approximately.
